How does a W9 Tax form differ from a 1099 Tax form?
A W-9 is the “Taxpayer Identification Form” which is used to pay someone who is self-employed. At the end of the year, that person will receive a 1099 which is a statement of the amount of money that company paid to you (Like a w-2 without taxes being taken out). Employees who are “1099’d” don’t have taxes taken out of their checks and are essentially self-employed and will have to pay taxes on that money at the end of the year.
