Upon arrival, Dr. Bejar and his assistant spend about 15 minutes unloading and setting up the equipment. Next, Dr. Bejar performs a brief physical exam on your horse followed by administration of preliminary sedation. Then we place your horse in the stocks, rinse any food from their mouth and administer a second dose of sedation. Dr. Bejar examines the incisors for abnormalities and place the mouth speculum within the mouth to hold it open. He then performs a thorough oral exam to identify any dental and/or soft tissue abnormalities. These findings are shown and explained to you. The cheek teeth will be floated and the mouth speculum removed. Then the canines and incisors will be floated and the mouth rinsed. A check is performed to ensure proper alignment of the teeth and further correction made if necessary. Recommendations will be made as to the course of treatment for any other abnormalities found (oral tumors, extractions, periodontal disease, further dental work required, etc.).
