How does a subcontractor ensure issues are being heard and dealt with during the contract period especially regarding late payment, non-payment and adding scope of work?
Washington State University recognizes that its primary relationship during a construction project is with the prime contractor. Construction contracts do require each subcontractor, as applicable to the work performed by the subcontractor, to be bound to the contractor by terms of the contract documents, and to assume toward the contractor the obligations and responsibilities which the contractor assumes toward the owner in accordance with the contract documents. We will address subcontractor concerns that are brought to our attention. If there is a problem, the subcontractor should be proactive about resolving issues such as non-payment of work and performing out-of-scope work and notify the general contractor and project coordinator of the issue in writing. If the response is not adequate or additional input is required, contact Mike Sturko (Construction Services Director, 335-9006). Rob Corcoran (Executive Director, 335-9018) can be contacted if further input is required.
