How does a stove help combat deforestation?
It is fairly simple math. Fuelwood is the main reason trees are cut down in Kenya. Most fuelwood is used for cooking. If you reduce the amount of wood needed for cooking by half, you equally reduce the number of trees cut down by half. Also, by cutting down fewer trees annually, you allow remaining trees to grow larger and create an overall greater biomass from which to draw. The fuel efficient stove reduces wood consumption by 50% – 60% and thereby, the demand for fuelwood and trees.
