How does a star delta starter work?
I hope you have the basic exposure on STAR and DELTA circuits. Whenever you start a motor, you need to start it slowly to prevent the rotor overheating and drawing enormous current. When the windings of a motor are connected in STAR the current is reduced to root three I. Hence the motor ‘soft’ starts. Once the motor picks up speed, the connection is changed to DELTA so that the motor runs at full speed and torque then onwards.Something like the gears of an automobile. Now, we have solid state starters which supply step less current depending on the need, which are more efficient with less power loss.
