How does a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant become licensed?
The process begins with a temporary license as a speech-language pathology assistant for the first year of employment. The temporary registration shall expire twelve (12) months after its effective date. During this period of temporary licensure, the speech language pathology assistant shall practice only under the supervision of a fully licensed speech language pathologist. In an exempt setting, the supervisor must have a certificate of clinical competence. For those SLPA applicants who do not have related or prior fieldwork experience, they must demonstrate completion of at least 25 hours of clinical observation and a cumulative total of 75 hours of clinical assistance within the first 60 days, as documented by the supervising speech language pathologist. The total hours of observation and clinical assistance may include any combination of hours earned either during the educational training or on the job. Additionally, the SLPA must submit a successful completion of a competency skil
