How Does a Rice Steamer Work?
Components and Operation A rice steamer is designed to steam rice quickly and easily, with little chance of over or under-cooking. Most models feature a removable bowl, a lid, and and an outer pot or casing. A thermostat is attached to the bottom of the pot using a spring. The bowl typically comes with integral markings showing how much water and rice to add. To start steaming, one must add the amount of water and rice that is indicated, usually two parts water to one part rice, then place the bowl into the pot. When the steamer is turned on, the water will heat up until it begins to boil. Once the majority of the water is absorbed or evaporated, the thermostat will send a signal to the steamer to reduce the level of heat. The steamer will then switch to warming mode or will automatically switch off.
