How does a rainwater system translate into water savings?
Flushing the toilet accounts for approximately 30 per cent of a home’s total water use. Using purified rainwater to flush a home’s toilets can save a family of three 30 per cent on their water bills and up to 69,000 litres of water per year. On top of that, during the spring and summer months Guelph’s water use can increase by as much as 30 per cent due to outdoor water activities such as lawn watering and car washing. Using harvested rainwater for outdoor water activities can conserve Guelph’s groundwater, save money on water bills and reduce the demands on the municipal water system.
