How does a phobia of needles develop?
Yes – this might rank as a phobia. A true phobia is a displaced fear. You have some other conflict – something perhaps which became unbearable around the age of 12. But it was impossible to deal with – so the fear got stuck to needles. This way you can still feel the fear, but you don’t have to deal with the real reason for the fear. That’s theory anyway. Do you really think you are afraid of getting medicine through a needle? We might all be a little apprehensive about being stabbed with a needle – but very few of us come unglued. This is treated by getting at the original conflict – and no hypno – suggestion- therapy is going to do much. You have to do the work of finding this – and that takes a doctor who doesn’t deal in nonsense and shortcuts.
