How does a models reliability affect whether or not it is recommended by CR?
Reliability is an important factor in our decision whether or not to recommend a model. In order to earn a CR Recommendation, a model needs to meet three criteria: • The model needs to do well in our road tests. • If the model was crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it must provide good overall crash protection based on our composite summary of the crash-test results. Pickups and SUVs also must not have tipped up in NHTSA’s rollover test, or if not tested by NHTSA, must have available electronic stability control. • The model must have at least average Predicted Reliability. A model that does not earn a Recommendation is not necessarily one we suggest you avoid. It might fall short of earning a recommendation because we haven’t tested it recently, or because we do not have sufficient data to predict reliability. If CR tested a model, it might not be recommended because it did not score well in

This Rating is a composite of our test results for accident avoidance, and crash protection based on crash tests administered by IIHS and NHTSA. In addition, pickups and SUVs must not have tipped up in the government’s rollover test or, if not tested, must be available with electronic stability control (ESC). In addition, pickups and SUVs must not have tipped up in the government’s rollover test or, if not tested, must be available with electronic stability control (ESC). • If ESC is not standard, the model must have ESC readily available on a mainstream, high-volume trim line. A model that does not earn a Recommendation is not necessarily one we suggest you avoid. It might fall short of earning a recommendation because we haven’t tested it recently, or because we do not have sufficient data to predict reliability. If CR tested a model, it
