How does a metal and non metal element react by transfers of electrons to form ions?
metals are group 1 or 2 elements so they need to lose one electron to have a full outer shell non metals are usually group 6 or 7 so they need to gain one or two electrons before they get a full outer shell thus group 1 or 2 elements will give their extra electrons to the non metals so that each element now has an full outer shell and so is more stable………….when you lose or gain electrons you are now known as an ion (a positive ion is one that loses an electron and a negative ion is one that gains electrons) Hope that helps……message me if any of that didn’t make any sense.
