How does a male Seahorse get pregnant?

Seahorses do not have a uterus or a penis, neither do any other fish. The other answers are correct, the eggs are transferred to the male who has a special pouch which holds the eggs. This is actually a very efficient method of reproduction as few eggs are lost and there is high percentage of fertilisation as the male can fertilise them once they are safely in his pouch. The male does not nourish the young in any way so this cannot be classed as a true pregnancy. The male does however give birth via contractions which ejects the young from his pouch once they have hatched and developed enough to be independant. Once born the young are fully independant and can swim and feed straight away, the time in the pouch gives them an excellent head start compared to other fish species.
