How does a lunar eclipse look?
Try to see one for yourself – the following description is but a poor substitute! The Moon gradually gets darkened – at first you might confuse it with the regular phases of the Moon, but the form isn’t exactly the same. After an hour, the Moon gets completely into the Earth’s shadow (in the case of a total eclipse; not all lunar eclipses are total). When this happens, the Moon looks red. This is due to light scattered through Earth’s atmosphere.
