School counselor certification requires a valid Kentucky teaching certificate, one year of full time teaching experience, a Master’s degree in school counseling or a Masters degree plus a provisional school counseling certificate from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). Not all states require a teaching certificate to be a school counselor. Check with a particular states Department of Education for certification requirements.
