How does a lay person know if the tea purchased is of good quality or not?
It is rather difficult for a lay person to truly check for quality. However there are few steps you can take to have a rough idea of its quality. •Buy leaf grade teas. They generally have better flavour. •Aroma of tea must be pleasant. Do not buy teas that have less aroma as this could be a sign of stale teas. •Avoid blended teas. Blended tea are mostly substandard and are made sometimes for the sole purpose of selling mediocre teas that are otherwise not accepted in the market. •Avoid Tea bags. They generally contain only tea dust and are substandard. •Check for colour adultration. Put a spoon of tea into a glass of cold water. If artificial colours have been added to it, the colour will immediately run out. This is not the case in quality teas where a pale colour will start oozing out only after a couple of minutes in the water. •Buy your teas from a trust worthy source. This is your safest bet.
