How does a Japanese person get a job in Japan?

For a full time job, you fill out application forms, send resume, then have an interview – not very different from the US, I suppose. If you are a student looking for a job after impending graduation, there’s usually someone at school who helps you locate one. (Companies let the schools know what kind of personnel they are looking for.) For a part-time job, the process is usually simpler. Most often, you pass by a business and find a poster like “Waitress wanted, needs to work evenings Mon – Fri, pay 900yen/hr.” You go in, ask for the manager and talk to him/her. You need to turn in your resume but that often happens only after they’ve decided to hire you. In big cities there magazines (some free) listing job prospects.
