how does a hot air balloon work?
A hot air balloon is comprised of three main parts: the envelope, the burner, and the basket. The envelope is the actual fabric balloon which holds the air, the burner is the unit which propells hot air upward into the balloon, and the basket is where the passanger and pilot stand.
To get the balloon to move upwards, the pilot will open up the propane valve, allowing the propane flow to the burner. This in turn fires the flame up into the envelope. Like a grill, the more you open the valve, the more the fire will burn and the faster the balloon will go.
To move from one direction to the other, the pilot simply ascends or desends to the appropriate level to ride with the wind.
