How Does a Gas Boiler Furnace Work?
Electricity A gas boiler furnace is not on continually. When the temperature is low, electricity is provided to the boiler by means of a switch. The switch can be turned on manually, but more often it’s turned on automatically by a thermostat that flips the switch at a specific temperature setting. Valve Opens Once the switch has been thrown to allow electricity to flow through the boiler, a valve is opened within the boiler. The opening of the valve allows gas to enter the combustion chamber of the boiler through many little openings called jets. Ignition The electric ignition system of the boiler lights the gas that flows through the jets. Pipe Heating The heat from the burning gas is transferred to the heat exchange system of the boiler, which is really just a set of pipes. These pipes contain water, which is heated as the pipes warm up. Water Movement The heated water from the heat exchange piping is circulated through more pipes that run throughout the building. The pipes usually
