How Does a Double Pane Window Work?
What Is a Double Pane? Double pane windows come in just about any style of window, such as double hung or casement. They have two panes of glass inset into the frame of the window. There is about 1/2 an inch of separation that is sometimes filled with a non-toxic gas to aide in insulation. In some of the more modern double pane windows, the decorative framework is in-between the glass, keeping it looking like new and enabling the glass to be cleaned with ease. Some manufacturers have even started putting the blinds between the panes of glass. Advantages Double pane windows trap heat in your home. This is especially true if they are filled with a gas called argon. An optional film coating makes these windows even more energy efficiency. This coating is called low-e and is applied to one of the inside panes. Double pane window also reduce the noise from outside.
