How does a dentist treat a gum infection?

If it is truly only effecting that one wisdom tooth, it may not be a gum infection but more a “tooth infection” Your dds will take x-rays to make sure you dont have an abscess at the root of the tooth (wich is caused by decay reaching the nerve) or there may be some other anomaly under the skin that you cant see. Since it is a wisdom tooth you dds may recommend an extraction rather than a restoration, but that is totaly up to you. If its a hygiene issue, get ready to hear a speech about proper brushing technique!
