How does a Crank Position Sensor Work?
A crank position sensor works by sending information to the powertrain control module (PCM). It measures the crankshaft position to time spark plug firing. The sensor creates a magnetic field that is interrupted by a reluctor ring passing in front of it. This interruption sends a signal to the PCM that interprets it as the crankshaft position.
