How does a coordinate system get chosen for a view path?
The coordinate system for a view path gets chosen when you add the first keyframe to the view path. When you add the first keyframe, it uses the coordinate system of the 3d window from which you added the keyframe as the coordinate system of the view path. This tends to work well because the coordinate system of the object you’re looking at is typically a very good choice for the coordinate system of the view path. If you’re looking at a satellite when creating the first keyframe, then the view path will use the satellite’s ICR coordinate system. For satellites, this is a much more reasonable coordinate system than ECI.
