Because there are no standards of practice for a health care advocate and one becomes a “professional advocate” through “on the job experience”, Health Care Advocacy was founded to address the need for establishing standards of practice as the foundation for building a true profession. Only a formal exam that measures the knowledge and skill of the health advocate can assure the public that the designated individual meets some minimal standard of practice in the role of health advocate.
