How does a case get referred to the NEIGHBOR Project?
Cases may be referred by the court or any of the NEIGHBOR Project partners. This project is intended to address conflicts that are so emotionally charged that it is blocking resolution and likely to generate multiple court filings and/or enforcement agency contacts. Such conflicts are likely to consume enormous resources of the court and leave litigants without any true resolution to the underlying issues, resulting in disharmony in the community as well. Areas of dispute could include, but are not limited to, easements, fences, noise, animals, parking, trespass, housing code violations, building or zoning code enforcement. A referring agency will often refer a case or dispute to our program because it has evaluated the dispute as appropriate for resolution through Mediation rather than in the court or agency administrative process.
