How Does a Beach Cruiser Bike Work?
Brief History The beach cruiser appeared on the American bicycle scene in the 1930s, made first by Schwinn. However, it introduced this new style at a time when the Great Depression had taken hold, so very few folks were buying such luxury items as new bicycles. By the 1950s, however, the beach cruiser bikes had become extremely popular, especially among the people who lived by the sea. Their rigid construction and single-speed were attractive to those who simply wanted to coast along the beaches and have a look around. When lightweight, multigeared bikes entered the scene, the beach cruiser fell by the wayside. They were not seen very much for almost 20 years, while BMX racing and aluminum-framed bikes were in their heyday. However, in the mid-1990s, the beach cruiser made a huge comeback as folks rediscovered their strength and versatility.
