How does a bark collar work?
Depending on the model, the collar may detect vibration of the dog’s vocal cords and/or sound. Upon detection, a mild electric current is sent through the probes to give the dog a correction. Your dog should quickly learn that barking is unacceptable. Some collars use a single microphone, so they can be susceptible to background noises, which would lead to false corrections. The PetSafe Deluxe Comfort Fit Bark Collar uses 2 microphones, one on the dog’s throat that is sensitive to vibration, and the other on top of the receiver that listens for sound. This eliminates false corrections, as it must have both sound and vibration before it will correct.
