How do yu go about getting a building code variance?
I’d start by checking the local building codes; there are tens of thousands of them in the US, so I’m talking in general terms. If you’re lucky, you live some place where it’s online; I’m not so lucky, and all my city does is tell me where to send a check to purchase the code books. On the other hand, my local library has both the current code and has already ordered the version that takes effect later this year.
