Unfortunately for you wedding reception guests are generally considered to be the hardest audience to write for, which makes grooms speeches a nightmare to tackle. This is down to the diversity of those attending, which could include a mixture of ages, sexes and religions, with some guests being sober and others perhaps not so. Add to which the wedding guests usually consist of many different social groups from both the groom’s side and the bride’s side. These could include close buddies, immediate and distant family, work colleagues, acquaintances, friends of friends and neighbors. This makes it extremely difficult to judge exactly what you can get away with saying without causing offence to someone. With such a wide range of social groups there are going to be people present at the groom’s speech who may not know very many other guests. This could make them feel slightly excluded and thus reinforcing any inhibitions they may already have, and making them less likely to respond to you
