How Do You Write Great Away Messages?
When you use an instant messaging service, you have the option of leaving up an away message. Here are some hints that will help yours be both informative and amusing! Make it clear that you can’t talk. The point of an away message is usually the same as your voice mail or an answering machine – you are not there, but you will have access to your messages later. Other times, you are at your computer, but for some reason you are not available for discussion. Let them know why. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? Sometimes you don’t know exactly what you will be doing, or maybe you think this information is too personal to share. If this is the case, then be vague or else skip this step completely. Be creative. Nothing is less memorable than an away message that says simply, “Shower.” Use plenty of adjectives, a few unusual terms, or even write a limerick. This will not only make your away messages more fun, but it will help your friends remember what you’ve been up to.
