its easy…. electronic configuration depends upon atomic number of the element…for example oxygen has atomic number 8..and we know that outer most shell can hav maximum 2 electrons and rest all shell can have maximum 8 electrons…therefore the Electronic configuration of Oxygen is k shell L shell 2 6 so to become stable oxygen need 2 more electons in L shell so its valancy is 2 hope i helped..
