How Do You Write An Expository Story?
You’re reading one right now. Expository writing, expository essays, and expository stories are all types of writing that explain, educate, or inform. According to Instructor Marla DeSoto’s “What is Expository Writing?” there are five main patterns or types of expository essays: description, sequential, comparison and contrast, cause and effect, and problem/solution. Each type has a different purpose. Descriptive essays describe a topic or subject, sequential essays explain processes in chronological or other type of order, comparing essays analyze the similarities between two or more subjects, contrast essays analyze the differences between two or more subjects, cause and effect essays examine the dynamic between situations or experiences, and problem/solution essays present a problem and a series of solutions.
