How Do You Write An Effective Thesis Statement?
One of the most important parts of a five paragraph essay is the thesis statement. It lets your reader, who is usually a teacher, know what your paper should be about. Without this, your reader won’t know what the paper should address. Read the essay prompt and decided what you are being asked. Many problems with the essay can be eliminated just by making sure you understand the writing prompt. What do you know about the subject? Brainstorm what you already know about the subject. Don’t be picky – just take a sheet of paper and free write about the topic. Choose three of your facts – these will be the basis of your body paragraphs. Pick the three strongest supporting facts from your brainstorming. To decide if the evidence is strong, you have to determine if you can cite direct evidence and support/explain it for a minimum of six sentences.
