Offering concern and words of condolence can be very comforting to anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one. The compassion conveyed through your words of sympathy communicates to the bereaved how much you care. Write soon after hearing of the loss. A good general rule is to send your condolences within the first two weeks. Taking time to write a message demonstrates genuine concern, so make it personal with a handwritten message whenever possible.
