A letter of intent is any letter that states your intention to enter into an agreement or contract. In some cases, it acts as a cover letter that accompanies your resume when applying for a job, college or a grant. It can also be an introduction for a proposal you’re making to a second party, usually for business purposes. No matter the purpose, your letter of intent should be clear, succinct and explicit about your intentions. Open your word processing program and center the text. Type a header with your name and contact information. Double space and set the text to the left. Type the name and contact information of the recipient of the letter. Write a formal greeting to the recipient by name, such as “Dear Mr. Jones.” Double space and type an introductory paragraph of two or three sentences. Tell the recipient who you are, e.g., former employee, recent grad, experience manager, and what the purpose of your letter is–a business proposal or a scholarship request. Don’t skirt around th
