How Do You Write A Student Athletic Contract?
Student-athletes have a lot of responsibility. In addition to their role on their athletic team, their coaches, teammates and community members are counting on them to be good students and good citizens. While many athletes realize it’s a privilege to play competitive sports at the high school or college level, many coaches like to spell out the student’s responsibilities in a contract that will determine eligibility to play a particular sport. Make sure the student is aware of his academic responsibilities. To stay eligible in many school districts, an athlete must maintain a C-minus or better average to play. However, you may require a higher average of your student athletes. Make this the first clause in the student-athlete contract. Enforce no-tolerance rules to off-campus or off-the-field misbehavior. A student-athlete needs to set a responsible standard for behavior and attitude. Getting drunk or high, getting in fights or hanging out with undesirables is not being responsible. T
