How Do You Write A Reader Response?
• Restate the question. This should take up just 2 sentences. The first sentence should capture the reader’s attention. Then the next should be the topic sentence. It introduces the reader to what he or she is going to read about. For example, if the question is “What is the setting of the story?”, then your sentences could be “Sunny, bright, and cheerful.” This is one of the settings that are in my story.” • Answer the question. Use specific details and develop your ideas. • Use text references. These will support your answer and back it up. You can use a direct quote from the reading or paraphrase. Use the transition, “As stated in the text…”. • Personalize when possible. Make connections to your writing which will make the reader relate to you and create a good voice in your writing. If we used the same question as before, talk about a great place you have been to. Create a closing. This should restate the topic sentence and provide closure.
