How Do You Write A Parliamentary Debate Brief?
Have you just joined your college debate team? Are you finding it hard to understand the basic tenets of writing a parliamentary debate brief? Luckily, you only have to remember a few simple steps in order to write a winning debate brief. Think of the very specific position you are arguing. Articulate it in your mind, but do not write it down. Now that you have your basic argument in mind, write a general introduction, discussing any relevant background that pertains, history of the argument, etc. Once you have the introduction complete, you must introduce your actual argument, which in parliamentary debate is called the government’s motion. This is a basic but persuasive statement expressing your argument simply yet effectively. It is similar but not identical to a thesis statement in a paper.
