Parachute cord, also known as paracord or 550 cord, is often used for a cheap and reliable method of knife handle wrapping. The paracord provides a positive grip, as well as serving as emergency line when needed. Parachute cord is a set of nylon ropes braided together to create a small, incredibly strong rope.
