How Do You Work On CB Radios?
CBs are most commonly associated with truck drivers or those who travel long distances. Some folks, however, enjoy talking to fellow CB’ers from home. When a CB radio is not working, though, it can impede your ability to work or drive safely, or just put a kink in your hobby. Try troubleshooting the problem before you pay a repair shop to fix your CB. Listen to your CB to help you pinpoint the problem. A high-pitched whine that increases with your driving speed is a sign that you need a new noise-suppression filter. Check with your local auto parts or car audio shop for a replacement. Listen for a ticking noise. This sound points to bad spark plug wires. Try replacing the antenna. Most are attached by a simple mounting nut that you can loosen with a wrench or by hand. Others are mounted by a magnet. Once you have removed it from the vehicle or building, you will need to remove the wiring. Unplug the CB from all power sources, as well as from the antenna.
