How do you work manual mode on Mario Kart Wii?
Press and hold the hop button as you start the turn. You’ll slide sideways as you go through the turn (the amount you slide depends on the Drift stat on the vehicle). If you slide long enough, you’ll get a blue flame. Keep sliding longer when you are in a kart and it will turn red, when you let off the hop button, you’ll get the boost (with a bigger boost from red flames). The wiggling back and forth does nothing. That was how you powered it up on previous Mario Kart games, but Nintendo simplified this part of the controls in Mario Kart Wii, to reduce the learning curve for new players.
