A single pole single throw (SPST) illuminated rocker switch is nothing more than a light switch that operates from a single location and also contains an enclosed light inside the switch. Wiring a SPST illuminated rocker switch is no different from wiring a regular light switch and does not require any special connections for illumination of the switch. Rocker switches are more modern and sleeker than a standard light switch and set almost flush with the wall, making them less obtrusive in a room. Turn off the electrical power for the switch circuit inside the main electrical panel box. Remove the original switch cover plate from the original switch and test to verify disconnection of power. Touch one prong of a two prong electrical tester to any screw on the right side of the switch and touch the remaining prong on the electrical tester to any metal on the switch or electrical box. Repeat this test for the remaining screw on the right side of the switch. The tester will not register a
