How Do You Wire An Electrical Box?
When you flip on a light switch in your house, it opens up an electrical circuit that runs from your fuse box, through the switch, to the light, with the electricity traveling through wires in your walls. Everyone knows this, but what you might not know is how easy it is to hook up such a circuit yourself, especially during new construction or a remodeling project where the walls have been opened up. Start with a plastic (not metal) switch box and electrical box screwed to the studs where you want them, with the fronts 1/2 inch out to accommodate your drywall later. Take one end of your electrical cable to the fuse box, but do not hook it up to the power yet. Just tie it around a rafter or other location near the box. String the other end through the walls to your switch box. At the switch box, cut the cable with your wire cutters to a length that will allow it to run up through the box and leave 1 foot of wire hanging out.
