How Do You Wire An Electric Clothes Dryer?
Wiring a dryer involves the installation of a dedicated 220-volt line fed from the main service panel of your home. You’ll need a four-wire cable connected to a four-prong outlet on one end and a 220-volt double-pole circuit breaker on the other. The higher voltage is required to heat the element used to dry the clothes as well as the tumbler used to spin the clothes as they dry. Due to the high voltage, consult a licensed electrician if you have any questions before starting this project. Measure up from the floor 18 inches and mark the wall where the outlet will be installed. Cut a 2-inch-square hole on that mark with the sheetrock saw. Turn the main power off at the service panel. Unscrew each of the screws holding the service panel door in place and remove the door. Create a knockout hole in the top of the service panel with the screwdriver.
