There is no need to hire an electrician to simply wire a door chime. In less than half a day you can remove your old door chime and install a new one. There are no special tools required to complete this job. Most homes are prewired for door chimes. You would need a wireless door chime for an apartment if there is none already available. Turn off the power leading to the door chime. Your power will be located in the junction box. The junction box is usually located in the garage or laundry room It could also be located in a closet. Use a small flat tip screwdriver or Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws from the anchor plate securing the doorbell to the door frame or porch wall. Pull the doorbell away from the door or wall. Disconnect the wires from the doorbell terminals. Use a flat-tip screwdriver to loosen the terminal screws, Untwist the doorbell wires from the terminal screws. Use your tape to secure the wires to the door or wall.
