How Do You Wire A Crossover Ethernet Cable?
A crossover cable, a special type of Category-5 Ethernet cable, connects the output network connection of a networked computer directly to the input network connection of another networked computer. To wire a crossover cable, however, certain wire pairs must be reversed. Cut a length of cabling, and strip 1/2 inch of the outer insulation jacket off both ends of the cable. Untwist each wire pair at both ends of the cable. Line up the wires at one end of the cable in this order, from left to right: white-orange, orange, white-green, blue, white-blue, green, white-brown, brown. Slip one of the RJ-45 connectors (flat side facing you) over the wire end, and crimp the connector on. Line up the wires at the other end of the cable in this order, from left to right: white-green, green, white-orange, blue, white-blue, orange, white-brown, brown. Slip the other RJ-45 connector (flat side facing you) over the wire end, and crimp the connector on.
