Geraniums are a popular bedding and border flower, blooming reliably in many areas from April through October. Most garden centers sell geraniums every spring, prominently displayed in the annuals department, but geraniums are, in fact, perennial plants in zones 9 and above. Geraniums can be overwintered indoors as a houseplant, stored in cool basement or garage or propagated from cuttings. If properly maintained through the long, cold winter, your geraniums will be ready to rebloom the following spring. Overwinter your geraniums as houseplants. If your plants are not potted, dig them up and place each one in an 8-inch pot. Bring your potted or newly potted plants inside. Cut the plants back sharply—reduce to about ½ to 1/3 their original size. Place the pots in a sunny window where temperatures remain on the cool side—65 degrees in the day and 55 degrees at night. They will get a bit leggy if they are in a warm location or dim light. Water your new indoor plants when the top 2 inc
