Knowing the game of hockey and the trends of the league, however, can help assemble a team that will pile the points. Know the rules and scoring system of your fantasy hockey league. The simplest leagues usually consist of ten-player teams adding up the points they score. More complex leagues can include depth charts, salary caps and complete stats like goalie numbers, plus-minus and penalties. Make sure a player is active before you draft him. Getting someone who’s hurt or injury prone is always a disaster. A player in a contract holdout, even just for one or two games, will set you back. Go for numbers, not just names.
