Palm leaves have been used to make baskets, serving ware and ornaments for thousands of years. In religion, palms were thrown onto the ground as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey just days before his crucifixion. The Sunday before Easter Sunday is Palm Sunday, celebrated by Catholics and other Christians. On Palm Sunday, palms are given to the church-goers to take home and save until the next Palm Sunday. Instead of placing regular palms in your home, weave the palms to take a different shape–like a rose–to be displayed. Place the palm leaves down in front of you. Position them so they look like an “L.” However, allow the horizontal palm of the “L” to extend 1 inch past the vertical palm of the “L.” Fold the extra 1 inch of the horizontal palm over the vertical palm.
