How Do You Weatherstrip Wooden Doors?
In cold weather, weatherstripping wooden doors can help you save money on your energy bill by keeping warm air inside and leaving the cold air outside. One type of weatherstripping is a wrapped foam wood flange. Use a clean, damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris from and around the door frame. Allow it to dry completely. Determine the width of the door frame by closing the door and measuring from one side to the other. Mark this length on the short piece of weatherstripping that comes in your kit. Use scissors or a utility knife to cut the foam portion of the weatherstripping. Cut the wood flange with a hacksaw. Hammer 1 1/2-inch nails into the wood flange and situate the weatherstripping across the top of the door so that the full span of the foam seals against the wood door. Lightly tap the weatherstripping in place without completely driving in the nails. Measure the length of the sides of the door frame.
