How Do You Waterproof A Canvas Bag?
Canvas bags are simple and durable, which is probably the reason they’ve been in use for so long. Canvas, a heavy material, is ideal for use as a bag since it resists punctures, stains and basic wear. The other advantage to canvas is the fact that since it’s naturally water repellent, it doesn’t take much work to waterproof it. Clean the canvas bag thoroughly both inside and out. Most waterproofing agents will make stains permanent and often encase dirt, making it difficult or impossible to remove. Treat the seams if needed. If the bag has overlapping seams (like on blue jeans) it won’t need extra help; but if it has a hidden seam (two panels come together and are stitched inside the bag) it will need special attention. Use a small amount of rubber sealant (like what is used to fix holes in rubber rafts) by running the applicator along the entire seam.
